Design of a typography in duo with Valentin Chauveau as part of the Écologie de l'édition workshop organized by Camille Azaïs, Marin Shaffner, Marion Cachon, Christophe Hocké, Normandie Livre & Lecture and Territoires pionniers in April 2023.
Wishing to question the place and role of ecology in the world of publishing and its applications within the Normandy region, this workshop aimed to examine our ways of publishing and designing books today in relation to our environment. Taking the form of collective fictions brought together in an edition entitled "De Sève et De Plomb", this time of reflection along the Noireau river was an opportunity to study the notions of eco-responsibility, short circuits, local production and reuse through the lens of today's book industry.
Created from plants gleaned throughout the workshop, Noireaude is a vernacular typeface drawing its poetry from the landscape in which it was conceived. Incorporating alternates for several capital letters, it allows users to compose their own typefaces freely, in the naive gesture of gleaning.
Taking its place within the "De Sève et de Plomb" edition in the form of initials and ornamentation, this titling font is accompanied by a typographic specimen printed on tracing paper and black paper.
