Noireaude

Noireaude is a vegetal typeface designed for the “Ecology of Publishing” workshop’s organised by Camille Azaïs, Normandie Livre & Lecture and Territoires pionniers in April 2023. The aim of the workshop was to explore the notions of eco-responsibility, short circuits, local production and re-use in the publishing industry in Normandy, and to question the ways we design books today. This time for reflection took the form of collective fictions brought together in an edition named De Sève et De Plomb.

Created from plants gleaned throughout the workshop, Noireaude is a vernacular typeface that draws its poetry from the landscape where it was designed. Including alternates for several upper cases letters, it gives users the opportunity to compose their words freely, like the naive and intuitive gesture of gleaning. This typeface created in duo with Valentin Chauveau was part of the installation Nous sommes Orne at the cultural place Le Pavillon in Caen in 2024.
